A BUSY AANHPI MONTH!
LA Galaxy x Terasaki Budokan
Our friends at LA Galaxy and the LA Galaxy Foundation connected with us throughout May for multiple opportunities in celebration of AANHPI Month, including a fireside chat event, being the Community Partner of the Match and delivering the ball at an LA Galaxy game, and interviewing Terasaki Budokan Director, Ryan Lee, for an “Our Galaxy” episode.
Make it stand out
LA Galaxy and LA Galaxy Foundation partnered with Terasaki Budokan and Little Tokyo Service Center for a fireside chat event on May 1st to kick off AANHPI Month!
Families were invited to Dignity Health Park to join LA Galaxy staff, Budokan’s Ryan Lee, and LA Galaxy Team Captain, Maya Yoshida, for this event. They talked about the importance of embracing AAPI heritage and the kids joined in on the discussion by asking questions.
After the chat and enjoying some yummy food from local Little Tokyo small business, Far Bar, the kids took a photo with Maya and then ended the day with a soccer clinic.

Make it stand out
Terasaki Budokan’s Communications Manager, Amelia Wallace, was invited to represent Budokan and LTSC as LA Galaxy’s Community Partner of the Match on 5/31. On the field, the LA Galaxy Foundation surprised us with a $2,500 donation, which will go to our upcoming event, CARE Fair!
She also delivered the ball to Cozmo before the game, and LA Galaxy got their first win of the season (maybe Amelia had the magic touch?)!
Lastly, LA Galaxy came by Budokan to film Ryan Lee, for their “Our Galaxy” episode, Celebrating Maya Yoshida: A100 Most Impactful Asian Pacific leaders. Start the video at 2:19 to hear what Ryan has to say about Maya!
Kibō Nobori
On Saturday, May 3rd, we hosted our 4th Annual Children’s Day event, Kibō Nobori. This is a free event for the community that features art, music, performances, an AAPI marketplace, food, and activities for the whole family. Kibō is planned in partnership between Terasaki Budokan and artist Faith-Ann Kiwa Young, who founded the event. Additionally, this year we partnered with Filled Market for our marketplace and JACCC and Kizuna to connect our Children’s Day events. A huge thank you to Angel City FC, our Title Sponsor, and Polytope, a donor towards the event!

SAN Soirée
Our friends at South Asian Network (SAN) hosted their 35th annual SAN Soirée at Budokan. At this event, the community shared their work and uplifted each other’s stories and efforts. It was a night full of incredible performances and making connections, celebrating SAN’s long and powerful history. Their advocacy supports so many South Asians across Southern California, and we’re so honored that Budokan was the setting of this beautiful event!
