A HAUNTED SCAVENGER HUNT
Every “Halloweekend,” something spooky comes to Little Tokyo…Haunted Little Tokyo!
Haunted Little Tokyo Scavenger Hunt is a FREE, family-friendly, Halloween celebration that leads guests through Little Tokyo. Budokan serves as the hub where there are fun games and activities for all ages. This event is connected to the larger “Haunted Little Tokyo” celebration, which was started by local businesses in the community to draw more folks to Little Tokyo. Besides the scavenger hunt, there are also ghost tours and the famous block party!
This year, we had over 800 people come out and over 40 volunteers (despite the huge Dodgers playoff game that was happening that evening)! We were also joined by our friends at Kizuna, Changing Tides, Mi CASA, Los Angeles Public Library: Little Tokyo branch, ACFC, and Radio Arts who brought amazing activities for everyone to enjoy. From origami to a photo booth, there was plenty of fun to be had! PLUS, we had a special meet-and-greet with ACFC star, Megan Reid!
Outside of the Budokan plaza, there were candy stops hidden throughout Little Tokyo for our hunters to find at JACCC, Cafe Dulce x Japangeles, and JANM. Prizes were waiting at Budokan for everyone who completed the hunt! We are so thankful to Cafe Dulce, Japangeles, Nellita’s Craft, Popkiller, Maneki Neko, JANM, and Tilt Coffee for donating fantastic prizes towards our prize wheel!
Make it stand out
Something that makes this event so special is seeing all of the families, friends, and partners that happen to stumble upon a candy stop out in the community and spontaneously join the event!
One family this year was spending the day shopping for anime merch in Little Tokyo when they saw one of the candy stops. After filling out their scavenger hunt maps, they returned to Budokan to spin the prize wheel. Angel, pictured doing a celebratory fist bump, ended up winning an anime figure, one of the special prizes donated by Maneki Neko, from one of his favorite animes!
